Energy UK responds to the Government's £60M budget for renewable schemes announcement
Responding to the government’s £60M budget for new round of renewable schemes announcement today, Energy UK’s chief executive, Lawrence Slade said:
“The UK has taken huge steps forward in reducing emissions whilst delivering clean energy at an ever-reducing cost to consumers, with renewable capacity growing tenfold since the passing of the Climate Change Act in 2008.
“This has been in part due to the stability and investment that can flow following Government certainty from schemes such as Contracts for Difference. It is therefore disappointing that the investment to be made available for the next round of renewable power contracts is so low.
“Ten years on - almost to the day - of the passing of the Climate Change Act, there are still significant challenges to be met if we are to successfully tackle climate change which will require joint action and much greater ambition. The power sector is a success story in driving decarbonisation and stands ready to go further and faster.”
